Handicap Tournament - Results

The annual Crewe & District Open Tournament was held at Alsager Leisure Centre on Saturday 18th April with entries for the mens and mixed doubles, and also for the mens singles.

As ever for these events the handicap committee did their best to award points based on players' abilities and in most cases they did a pretty good job.

There were four players willing to take on the singles, with each playing the other three twice.  Chris Slinn from South Cheshire took first place having won 5 out of 6 games, closely followed by Pawel Chlebowicz, also South Cheshire, who won 4 games.

Four pairs also entered the mixed doubles, again with each pair playing the others twice.  Becky Tong (Alsager) and Craig Delury (Crosses) were the winners with 5 wins out of 6.

Second place in the mixed was a very close affair.  Evie Geal & Jon Postlethwaite from Alsager, and Judy Guan & Carl McGregor-Ogden from Weaverham & Canute respectively, both finished on 3 wins each.

This meant looking at the head-to-head between the pairs, which was also very close - split 1 win and 1 loss each.  However, Judy & Carl had scored 3 points more than Evie & Jon across those games so they were awarded runner up spot.

The mens doubles entry was 7 pairs, once again, and to maximise court time, each pair played all the others twice.  The games were only to 15 points, but that still a lot of badminton, especially for those players who were in two events!

There were lots of close games, no pair won all their games and no pair lost every time.  The winners were Matt Dex & Rich Jakeman from Remnants who took 11 out 12 despite having the biggest negative handicap of all the pairs.  Second place went to Chris Geal & Jon Postlethwaite from Alsager with 9 wins.

Congratulations to all the winners and runners up, congratulations and thanks to the handicappers for contributing to all the close games, and a big thank you to everyone who took part.
