The last preliminary match was completed last night (Monday 13th January) at the home of Cegelec when they played Weaverham.
Cegelec fielded a strong side of Tom Ravenscroft, Ben Pepper, Nick Morgan, Alex Jones, Anna Crachol and Jo Ray. Weaverham had Andy Brown, Kevin Ashley, Andy Lewis, Chris Rideout, Rachel Darlington and Marie Hart. An examination of the player records suggested that Weaverham would be in need of some serious help through the handicap. The handicappers elected to award 123 points.
The match did indeed go with form and Cegelec powered their way to what would have been a 18-0 victory had games been the deciding factor. Other than one mens game where Andy Brown and Kevin Ashley ran their opponents close, the general scoring was low single figures to mid teens. Cegelec chalked up the maximum of 378 points. Weaverham totalled 178 leaving a hefty deficit of 200. Even the handicap couldn't help on this occasion. Cegelec winning by 77 points which equates to 4.2 points per game, higher than the handicappers wanted but still a very respectable effort from Weaverham. Cegelec will now play South Cheshire in the Quarter Final on 19th February.
