The Crewe and District Baxter Trophy squad represented us in this year’s tournament recently. This is the elite players event organised by Cheshire County. Kara Robinson of Canute kindly organised the team and our thanks go to her for doing that and providing the following update:

First off we played Wirral who won the tournament last year so we were expecting tough competition and with a lady down we already had to concede one game. Jack graciously took on the men's singles but unfortunately got pipped in 3 games. Our level doubles were a similar story with the ladies taking their games to 3 but unfortunately losing out. We then went on to win both our mixed doubles taking the score to 4-2 to Wirral.

It was much the same against Chester, a 4-2 victory to them with us taking both mixed games.

Our games against Warrington proved to be a fight for third place. They were two ladies down so we automatically won the ladies doubles so has the first advantage. Jack went on to win his singles in two. Sylvia then volunteered to take on the ladies singles much to our teams delight winning in two games and prompting a standing ovation from the rest of the team watching on the balcony. The men's doubles proved to be tough and we missed out on that one. The mixed followed the trend of the other games and we took them both home.

Overall we came third with Wirral and Chester tying for first place, the final decision then coming down to how many sets each game took!

Many thanks to all the players that took part: Stephen Pickering, Nikki Brown, Iain Owen, Sam Warwick, Simon Hart, Sylvia Ellis-Jones, James Burnham and Jack Raiswell. Special thanks to Sylvia and Jack for playing the singles!
