Dear Badminton enthusiasts
I am writing to you in the hope you may be able to help us to rescue a difficult situation. Shavington Junior Badminton Club have played in Cheshire for many years being associated with Crewe and District League. The club have enjoyed some very good years holding club meetings every Saturday in season at Shavington Leisure Centre in Crewe. We have competed in the Crewe and District Junior League since it began in 2000. We have usually had somewhere between 3 and 5 level 2 BE qualified coaches during this time. A number of factors are now working against the club, most notably the coaching staff are now struggling to maintain it. Each member is showing the signs not unusual in players over the age of 50. Two of as septuagenarians in particular would like to hand over the reins to a younger, more motivated coach (or better still coaches)
We find ourselves in our last season of operation unless we can find someone to take over the club. We live in a good catchment area although numbers have reduced over the years. We enjoy a very good working relationship with the leisure centre who block book our courts. We have a healthy on-line bank account with funds. We have a good set of equipment including a stock of feathered shuttles and rackets.
If you feel you can make our plight known in any of your publications, activities, or correspondences please do so, in case we can attract the next generation. The club will cease to operate in March 25 unless we can find some replacements.
Brian Horrocks - Level 2 coach and club treasurer.
