Dear Colleagues
We had an exec meeting the other night and the cycle of membership is about to turn again. We learned of David Sumner's retirement from active service one year ago and have since installed Carl McGregor-Ogden as Chairman. We now know that Ruth Raiswell has declared this season to be her last after 19 years of fixture secretary - a quite magnificent effort. We are now approaching the task of finding someone to act as Fixture Secretary from 25/26 onwards. Ruth will do the task this season and coach a replacement. So the sooner we can entice someone the better as they have a long run in to pick up the nuances.
Our executive committee collaborate closely, meeting a few times each year to ensure everything runs smoothly. We're now hoping to welcome new faces and fresh ideas! If you are interested in contributing (even short-term!), please don't hesitate to get in touch, where we can discuss a number of positions but in the first place the fixture Secretary is our priority.
In a nutshell the task sounds simple and when handled with skill (like Ruth does) it is straightforward. The web site is such a boon now that much of the task is automated and the people who enter and validate results actually do the job. The system calculates everything from tables to performance. Of course someone needs to watch over proceedings and that is the job summed up as follows
- Coordinating Fixture Secretaries in setting up the seasons fixtures
- Overseeing results entries
- Helping with player registration queries
- Maintaining the fixtures matrices if anything changes
